Propane grills, while lacking the charcoal taste, can be very beneficial. The benefits include:

  • Simple to clean
  • Versatility
  • Taste
  • Convenience
  • Control

What Makes a Gas Grill Good?

Personally, I’d say a say in order for a gas grill to be good, it should at least have two burners. I also believe it should have tables for holding things like drinks, sauces, spices, and buns. Hanging hooks are an additional benefit, which I believe makes for a good grill.

The first grill I have on my list of the best gas grills under 300 comes to us from Weber – this is a brand that is well known. The Weber Q 2200 is in the Q-line of Weber’s popular grills. With this grill, you can easily fold it up and carry it with you. The 280 square inches of cooking space makes this one a real winner and the top gives you enough space to be able to grill a large roast or even a whole chicken.

Specs

  • Hood-mounted thermometer
  • Cooking grate that is 280-square inches. The cooking grate is coated with porcelain-coated cast iron.
  • Push-button ignition – simply push a button and the grill will startup.
  • The nylon frame is reinforced with glass.
  • Two work tables
  • Available in a variety of colors
  • Weighs around 42 pounds
  • Cast aluminum lid

Grill Features

Weight and Size

The Weber Q2200 liquid propane grill weighs 42 pounds, which isn’t all that bad, but it will require two hands to carry it (that’s to be expected though). However, it is small enough for the user to be able to use it from, say, an apartment balcony and put it inside the trunk of a car for transportation. This may be a grill that is small in size but don’t let that fool you, because it can cook some amazing steaks, burgers, and chicken for a group of people.

Specs of the Weber Q2200 Liquid Propane Grill

Mind you, this one may not be as powerful as the traditional gas grills, but it is definitely worth looking at if you’re trying to find the best bbq grill that is portable. This is one of the best grills under 300 that can be used for small outdoor spaces, camping, and it can even be used for semi-permanent placement. This model is great to use for cooking for up to four people.

The Shell

The shell of this grill is made from cast aluminum, which does a great job of holding the temperature. Believe it or not, grills that are made of cast aluminum are better at holding heat that those that are made out of thin steel.

The Cooking Grates

The cooking grates on the Weber Q2200 are porcelain-coated cast iron, and the stainless steel burner tube ensures that there is even heat flowing throughout the grill.

Hood Mounted Thermometer

There’s a hood mounter thermometer on this grill, which means that you will be able to keep track of the progress of your food. For obvious reasons, I always like when the grill comes with a thermometer mounted on the hood.

Glass-Reinforced Side Tables

The Q2200 l features glass-reinforced side tables – these side tables are located on each side of the grill. They come in handy for holding spices and sauces.

Two-Piece Cooking Grates

The two-piece cooking grates can easily be combined with the optional griddle accessory (this is sold separately). I like how with this Weber grill, I have the option to transform it into a griddle, making it even more versatile. The griddle is great to use for cooking in eggs, sausage, and pancakes in the morning time.

Stainless Steel Burner

The burner is stainless steel rust-resistant, making it so that the grill will last for a long period of time. The burner is capable of creating 12,000 BTU per hour, making it great for cooking. You have a 280 square inch cooking space.

This grill right here is the restyled version of the Q 220. It offers the same amazing performance and lovely styling as the Q220, but there are some additional features that make cooking on the grill a whole lot easier. The new features include:

  • The handles on the side are ergonomic
  • Control knobs and handles are larger
  • Larger sized fold-out tables on both sides
  • Sturdy rear and front cradles

Uses

This Weber grill is great for tailgating parties, backyard cookouts and camping due to the small size combined with the large grilling surface.

To sum it up, if you’re on the market for a good propane grill for camping, tailgating, or cooking in your backyard, and you don’t plan on cooking for more than 4 people at a time, then this one right here would be a great option for you.

The cooking space is 300 square inches, so it doesn’t take up a whole lot of room. Those that have limited space or small patios are going to appreciate everything this grill has to offer.

Wide Side Shelves

It has wide side shelves that you can use for holding your spices and sauce. When it’s all said and done, the tables on the side can fold down, making it easy for you to store the grill.

Along with the wide side shelves, the Char-Broil propane grill has an enclosed cabinet, so you will be able to store your cooking accessories.

Electronic Ignition

With this grill, gone are the days where you have to hassle with a grill just to get it running. Thanks to the electronic ignition system, you will be able to start this grill without playing around with it.

Porcelain Cast Iron Grates

The porcelain cast iron grates are great for retaining heat and in the end, it’s simple to clean them. These grates are rust-resistant.

Warming Rack

The Warming Rack on this grill makes it so that you can easily keep the food warm while you continue to cook.

Four Wheels

This grill has four wheels (you can lock the back wheels in place) and those wheels make it easier to move the grill around.

I admit, when it comes to finding a grill that doesn’t cost much and cooks amazing food, it’s not an easy process. However, this grill right here is one of the best gas grills under 300 that I would highly recommend. The electronic ignition makes it easy to start up, it has a fair amount of square inches of cooking space, and the warming rack ensures that your food will stay warm while you’re still cooking.

Another good one that you can get for under 300 would be the Char-Griller E3001 Grillin’ Pro 40,800 BTU Gas Grill. In fact, if you’re looking for a model that has a large cooking area, then this would be the route to take.

Design

I must say, in terms of design it is obvious that Char-Griller put some extra thought into it. The grill has two stainless steel propane burner elements, along with a flip-top burner that is located on the left side table. All of the burners can be ignited with the electric igniter (the igniter runs off of one AA battery).

Porcelain Coated Primary Cooking Grill Grate

The primary cooking grill grate is made from cast iron. If you’re not familiar with cast iron, this is great for heat retention as well as searing. On the grates, you’ll also discover that there’s a special porcelain coating, which makes it so that the food isn’t going to stick as bad to the surface, making it simple to clean up when it’s all said and done.

Sturdy Base and Easy to Move

The sturdy base has a special hole that will hold the propane tank. Making it easy to move, the back of itl has two heavy-duty wheels.

Dual Chimneys

This grill has dual chimneys, which does more than just make the grill look good. The dual chimneys assist with internal heat control.

Lid

The lid is tall, making it so that you can cook whole chickens in the grill.

Two Burners

The grill has two burners, which are capable of producing 14,000 BTUs of heat.

Grilling Areas

The primary cooking space on this grill is 438 square inches – that’s right, you have 438 square inches of cooking space. I would say with this many inches of cooking space, you would be able to grill a nice sized pizza.

Warming Rack

Along with the large square inches of cooking, you also have a 192 square inch warming wrack. The warming wrack makes it possible to keep your food warm while you’re still cooking.

Easy to Clean

When it comes to cleaning the grill, there are some pros and cons. There’s non-stick porcelain coating on the grill grates, making it easy for them to be scraped down. If you have something like a caramelized sauce stuck in the corners, you can easily take the grates off and wash them with warm soapy water. The porcelain coating comes in handy for preventing the water from causing any corrosion or rust.

Removable Grease Drip Pan

There’s a removable grease drip pan that is quite large. The drip pan is easy to pull out so that you can pour the grease out.

If you’re looking for a great entry-level grill that is under 300, then you should definitely keep the Char-Griller E3001 Pro on your list. It will have all the features you need to cook amazing food each and every time.

First of all, if you’re looking for a propane grill that has a large cooking surface, then look no further than the Megamaster 6 burner propane grill. Heavy-Duty Cart and Wheels

The grill is designed as a heavy-duty cart and has wheels that are over-sized, making it easy for you to move around your backyard. Mind you, when it comes time to store it away, those side tables aren’t going to fold down, so if you’re looking for something that is compact for storage, this isn’t going to work out.

Another grill that deserves its spotlight on this list of the best grills for under 300 comes to us from Coleman. The Coleman Roadtrip Grill LXE is quite popular for those that enjoy taking their grill with them.

Design

Basically, the Roadtrip LXE portable has two burners that are sitting on a fold-up cart. The two burners offer 10,000 BTU of cooking power and have a unique looking design to them. The burners are covered up by an oval heat diffuser that is responsible for evenly spreading the heat across the grates that are cast iron grated. As an additional bonus, it sizzles those drippings all over the food, adding additional flavor.

Additional Cook Surfaces

The Roadtrip LXEl offers additional cook surfaces that are capable of fitting on either side right over the burners. There is also a round stove grate and a griddle grate that you can use to cook with pots and pans. In order to be able to make room for those larges pots, you can remove the grill lid (I really like this feature).

Electric Ignition

The electric ignition makes it so that you can start it simply by pushing the button – I’m sure by now you’re familiar with the electric ignition.

Side Shelves

It has two shelves that can fold down when you want to use them.

Tool Hooks

On the front control panel, there are two tool hooks so that you can keep your tools within reach while you’re grilling.

Easy to Transport

The entire grill can fold up, making it easy for you to transport. The grill head alone weighs 24 pounds, but when you add the stand, it weighs 41 pounds, What really makes it stand out from the crowd is how portable it is – it is easy to fold up and take with you. It offers a big cooking surface but can fold up quickly. The stand has wheels, so you can roll it down to your camping spot.

Propane Canisters

This grill runs on 16.4-ounce propane canisters. There is an adapter that is available to make it so that it runs on a 20 lb. LP tank.

Cooking with the Grill – Endless Options Due to the Mix and Match Plates

While I like all of the features of this grill, one of my favorites is what you can cook with this grill. You can use the cast-iron grill grates on one side to cook delicious steaks, while on the other side, using an accessory griddle plate, you can saute onions. If you’re looking to cook some breakfast, on one side, you can cook bacon, while on the other, pancakes, and you don’t have to worry about the bacon running into your pancakes and making them greasy. Honesty, due to the mix and match plates, the options you have are nearly endless.

The Size

Honestly, this is a portable grill, but looking at it, I’m surprised at how big the primary cooking surface is. It offers a total of 285 square inches to cook on. As for the grill itself, it measures in at 12″ deep and 24″ wide.

Additional Features

  • Two burners that are independently controlled and can be two different temperatures – the burners are located on each side of the grill.
  • On each side, there is one able. These tables can hold sauce, spices, drinks, buns and more.
  • There’s a metal grease trap that can be removed from the bottom – this grease trap is responsible for catching the drippings that fall off of the food.
  • There are three tool hooks that are under the burner knobs – you can hand your tongs, spatula, and BBQ fork on these hooks.
  • The steel construction combined with high-heat painted surfaces makes it so that the paint isn’t going to flake off.

All in all, if you’re looking for a great gas grill that is portable, then this one right here is one of the best on the market. It’s stainless steel, fairly light and weight, and has wheels and for a portable grill, the amount of primary cooking space is surprising.

If you’re searching for a portable gas grill, then the NapoleonGrills TQ285 portable gas grill shouldn’t be overlooked. Despite all of that, you’re going to be surprised by the amount of cooking space this gas grill offers – and you’ll be cooking on heavy cast iron cooking grates.

The twin burner design on this gas unit will allow you to cook more versatile foods. With two burners, this will give you the opportunity to keep food warm on one side, while you’re still grilling on the other side.

Light in Weight

One of the biggest features of this portable unit is the fact that it is super light in weight, making it even easier for you to transport. To be exact, this grill only weighs 20 pounds – as I told you in the introduction of this, it’s so light that you will be able to carry it with one hand. The lid locks and legs fold up, making it easy for you to move around. While you’re transporting, just be careful because the knobs and handles are made of lightweight plastic – this makes the look seem cheap, but that’s okay because this is capable of cooking delicious food.

Porcelain Coated Cast Iron Grates

The porcelain-coated cast-iron grates do a great job at cooking food each and every time. Then, when you’re done using the unit, the porcelain coating on the grates make it easy to clean.

I’m going to leave this list off by quickly telling you about another gas grill that I stumbled across during my research on the best gas grills on the market. This item is also a charcoal grill (gas/charcoal combo), which is one of the reasons I decided to mention it. This means that not only can you use it with propane, you can also use it with charcoal, making it so that you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Side Burner

There’s a stainless steel side burner that offers 12,000 BTUs.

Assembled Dimensions

The assembled dimensions are: 64″L x 28″W x49.75″H.

If you’re the type of person that enjoys food cooked over charcoal (that gives the food a nice grill flavor), but at the same time, there’s time when you don’t have charcoal or you don’t want to hassle with charcoal, then the propane side of the unit will come in handy – this is why I like gas and charcoal combos.

Conclusion

So there you have it, the best gas grills under 300 – choosing from this list of grills is hard to do, but at least, when you choose a grill from this list, you can rest with the satisfaction of knowing you chose one of the best gas bbq grills on the market.
