Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill Review

There’s nothing quite like Johnsonville brats and sausages. The juiciness is just unbeatable. If you’re a fan of all things brats, then I have something in store for you. Awhile back, I came across a Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage grill (the Johnsonville BTG0498).

They refer to this as the “Surround-Browning” system, and I can see why. It takes those brats and cooks them like no other system before – it seals the juices in as it cooks, ensuring that your brats come out perfect. There’s even a build in temperature probe that will tell you when the sausage is cooked. I love how I don’t have to worry about overcooking them or yes, undercooking them. Each time you open the unit to take your sausages out, you can rest with the satisfaction of knowing they’re perfect.

What is the Johnsonville Sizzling Sausage Grill?

Johnsonville BTG0498 Sizzling Sausage Grill, OSFA, Black/Stainless

This is a uniquely-shaped grill that has been designed to cook Johnsonville brats and sausages. Sure, it doesn’t really have to be Johnsonville, as long as the sausages and brats are the same size. If they’re not the same size, then they’re not going to cook evenly and sear. I personally recommend sticking to the Johnsonville brats and sausages.

It has non-stick plates that are shaped just like brats – since they’re non-stick, this means clean up is going to be easy. There is also a non-stick removable drip tray that catches those extra juices. You can put the drip tray and grill plates in the dishwasher, making cleaning even easier.

Who is this Product Suitable for?

It’s suitable for those that love brats and sausages, especially Johnsonville brats. If you’re tired of trying to figure out whether those sausages are cooked well, then this machine is definitely something you should not overlook.

Cooking with this Cooker is Fun

There are individual grill slots that are shaped to hold sausages and brats in position while they cook. This particular grill will cook those brats evenly, because the grill plates are designed to individually hold each sausage. Since it uses what is referred to as “Intellisense,” it’s not going to dry the brats out or overcook them. In fact, once the brats have reached the correct internal temperature, it will automatically shut off.

If you’re just cooking for yourself and want one sausage, that is perfectly fine, this cooker can do that. However, if you’re grilling for multiple people, that is also fine, because this grill can hold an entire tray of 5 sausages at one time.

Features

First of all, we’re going to start off by taking a look at the features. The Johnsonville BTG0498 is nothing like those traditional grills currently on the market – this one is designed for a specific food, with the sausage-size grooves in the tray. It has a unique design that ensures all five of the sausages will get just the right amount of browning (that’s exactly how we love our sausages).

Fits Perfectly

I absolutely love how they have designed this machine – it fits the Johnsonville Brats perfectly …once we lay the brats on the grill, we automatically know that this machine was made for them.

Internal Gauge

The internal gauge is amazing. It is responsible for telling you when your brats have reached the right temperature and are done. Actually, once they are done, the grill is going to shut itself off, which is a feature I really like. This means you don’t have to worry about remembering to turn the grill off, so it’s definitely a bonus.

Nonstick Coating

On the grill, there’s a nonstick coating, making it so that the brats and sausages aren’t going to stick to the tray. This means that it is going to be easy to clean up (as I said before, you can put the trays in the dishwasher if you want).

Drip Tray

Along with the nonstick coating, there’s also a removable drip tray. This holds the excess liquid and fat that drains off of the sausages as they cook – this drip tray will save you from getting the messy juice all over the place.

Pros

When looking at the Johnsonville BTG0498, and putting it under a microscope, I have found so many advantages to it.

Non-Stick – As I stated in the paragraphs above, Johnsonville went out of their way to make sure clean up was going to be easy. The non-stick coating is definitely at the top of my list because it makes it so that food does not get stuck on it and it is easy to clean.

Drip Tray and Plates Can be Removed – That’s right, both the plates and the drip tray can be removed so that you can thoroughly clean them. Since you can remove the plates, you can place them in a sink full of hot water and let them soak, making clean up even easier. If you have a dishwasher, you can go ahead and place them in a dishwasher, making for a super easy clean up.

Surround Browning System – Have you ever heard of the “Surround Browning” system? Well, it’s something that the Johnsonville BTG0598 comes with. The surround browning system means that you can count on having brown sausages each and every time you cook them and when I say “brown,” I’m talking about brown without them being burned. They are cooked to 100% perfection each and every time.

Quick Meal – Regardless of the time of day, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner, if you’re in need of a quick meal and you love brats, then this is the grill you want to turn to. This grill comes in handy for busy families, because it is capable of cooking five perfect sausages within 15 minutes tops. Doesn’t that sound pleasant?

Easy to Use – When it comes to using this grill, you’re going to have a lot of fun. Honestly, nothing really needs to be done, besides placing the brats/sausages correctly in the plates, letting them cook, removing them, then cleaning up. There is no need to stand over the grill and boringly watch over the meat as it’s cooking because the grill will automatically shut off when it has reached the correct temperature. This will give you 10-15 minutes to go do what you need to do, or simply hang out with family and friends while you wait for the brats to cook.

No Splatter – In the past, when I cooked brats, the juices would splatter, and get all over the place, which was super aggravating. However, if you choose to use this grill to cook your brats, splatter is going to be a thing of the past. This is because the grill closes while you’re cooking. Not only does this help prevent splatter, it will also make it so that the meat cooks quickly and thoroughly, and it will reduce power consumption, which is something we should all be doing.

Cons

Like I said up there in the “pros” section, I put this grill under a microscope and combed through it with a fine-tooth comb. During that process, I also discovered some cons that I would like to mention (I would never leave out the cons and not tell my readers about them).

Overall, this is a great product and I highly recommend it. However, even with the best products out there, you’re going to come across some problems. In this case, there are some faults.

Some customers have received a grill that is damaged. Mind you, I’m not sure if that would be Johnsonville’s fault, because things do go on during transit. Individuals that received a damaged product can contact the company and request a refund or replacement.

Last, there’s a plastic hook in the back of the machine. That plastic hook is fragile and I can see it breaking off after only a couple of uses, regardless of how careful you are with the hook. However, the hook isn’t really all that important of a piece, and the grill can do without it, so it’s not really anything you have to worry about.

Despite those small complaints, the product is very popular and well-liked by consumers around the world.

Where Can I Use the Johnsonville Brats Grill?

I understand that some may be confused as to where they should use the Johnsonville brats grill. Believe it or not, this is the type of grill you can use right in your kitchen! That’s right, you can put it on your kitchen counter and cook all the brats your heart (or stomach) desires.

It can be used in homes, apartments, dorms, and even in RVs and campers. As an additional benefit, the grill isn’t going to take up a whole lot of space, so you’ll find yourself being able to cook brats anytime you like. While the brats are cooking, you can prepare the other sides and your toppings in the kitchen as well.

Conclusion

A lot can be said about the Johnsonville BTG0498, and if brats and sausages are one of your favorite foods, then this is something you’re going to want to get. You can use this grill on your countertop, or wherever you have access to electricity.

It is specifically designed to grill brats as it is shaped just like a Johnsonville brat – it holds and hugs the brats like no other cooking method. The Johnsonville grill will cook the brats and sausages evenly, and brown them perfectly.

You can cook an individual brat, or a whole tray of brats all at one time. Point blank, if you’re trying to find an easy way to cook your brats and sausages, then the Johnsonville Sizzling grill is the way to go.
